about

ENG
There are certain years that will always live on; wounds that refuse to heal. Painful years that stick with us like a fire burning into the history of our bodies and territories. Years that are difficult to speak. Years that re-ignite, each time they are uttered. 1973 is one of those years. 1973 is also the new EP from Sueuga Kamau in collaboration with La Favi and produced under the Hiedrah Club de Baile label. In a continent that’s once again boiling with anger, the duet from California decided to reexamine the gaps of their own Afro-Latinx Heritage. Through lent voices, forgotten rhythms and erased identities they weave a tale that bridges the unyielding Latin America and the enraged african-american people.
1973 is both loving touch and sorrow, a familiar sound that forcefully persists, the exploration of a territory that resists, conjures and keeps going. From Santiago de Chile to Dallas, from the outskirts of Buenos Aires to Oakland, California. A sound filled with darkness that stirs up your breathing and gets between the living cogs of capitalism, and from there it turns into a gentle caress in those intimate places we rarely reach. You dance to it with chills throughout your body and a tiny tear in the tip of your lips. In the midst of the roar of drums and machinery, the voice of La Favi moves through the perspiration of the listeners. It’s a damp whisper that mutates into a demand for sexual justice, while the words from Allende, that surges between broken radio transmissions and air strikes, transforms into dance, and then into an outcry. Sueuga Kamau composes a disobedient piece, a rhythm filled with riots that endures bullets, contagions and tyrants, an insurgent invitation to explore our own detonations.

Hiedrah is an argentine musical board based in Buenos Aires. Since 2013 we promoted the singularity of identity and cultural minorities in Latin America in order to create a new libertarian policy concerning the joy of bodies.

We are not the same: we are boosted by our differences.
